Molly Beck's
Smart, Pretty & Awkward

Hi, I’m Molly!

I started this website because I had one little tip that I thought was genius–using clean, unused toilet seat covers as facial blotting tissues (which, I promptly forgot about, and didn’t blog about until five months in). The next thing I knew, I had a domain name, and the blog had found a life of its own.
With my readers’ support, the site has led to some amazing opportunities, and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this community, and the 5 year anniversary party for the site drew 200+ readers to an event in downtown Manhattan. I truly believe Smart, Pretty & Awkward has the best readers on the Internet.
When I’m not writing or managing this site, I work in marketing and digital consulting, am building podcast creation site Messy Bun, and my first book Reach Out is on shelves this fall with McGraw-Hill. I also love connecting with audiences about entrepreneurship, digital media, and more. If you are interested, you can read more about my speaking here.
Please never hesitate to reach out, and thanks for stopping by! I’m glad you’re here.

    Dear Molly:

I think you are actually brilliant, beautiful and poised. That’s what I find in reading your blog.

It would be nice to see your face although I like the headless shot. But if I saw the shot maybe then if we were to cross paths one day in New York or Tennessee or somewhere I could perhaps recognize you– if I wasn’t caught in my own awkward thoughts.

    Best wishes,

This is my new favorite blog!!! A good friend of mine told me about it a few months back and as a law student I never felt like I had enough time to introduce anything new to my life. Tonight I had trouble falling asleep so I came out to the living room to facebook stalk old high school friends. As it turns out, I have stalked almost everyone worth stalking somewhat recently and that is when I remembered your blog name. I have spent the last hour reading post after post. You are incredible. This is literally the perfect blog. From here on out this Smart, Pretty and Awkward will be how I start each day. I will definitely print some of my favorite posts to pin up in the student lounge. Hopefully my entire school will soon be fans. Good work! and Thanks 🙂

I saw it on a friends facebook and thought “Hmmm, people say I’m smart, and pretty… and I KNOW I’m awkward… let’s check this out!” And was far from let down. Lots of extremely helpful little tips that I plan on putting to use starting today!

Thanks so much for sharing these little intrigues with the world. And have an epic day!

  49. laura says:

Hi Molly, I love the outfits that you come up with, but the thing is I’m still in college and the prevailing outfits on campus seems to run to athletic shorts and oversized t-shirts, and I don’t know what sort of outfit combinations to look for when I’m shopping that will be cute and classy but low-key enough for everyday at school. Any suggestions?

I just wanted to let you know I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I’ve really enjoyed reading all of your fitness and nutrition tips. You’ve inspired me to try some new things in my own life, and I really appreciate it. You can read more about the award in my latest post here:

    Thanks for being inspirational!

    • Katie H. says:

Okay, I’m really embarrassed, because I hit “paste” for the link, and it pasted my whole last comment to another blog. Obviously, I am not a fan of your fitness and nutrition tips, since that’s not what you write about! However, I HAVE nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, because I really enjoy reading your thought-provoking tips and quotes. I often find myself thinking about them later in the day, after I’ve read them. Or, a situation will arise and I’ll think, hmm… that reminds me of what I read on Smart, Pretty, and Awkard. So, thank you. You can read more about the award here:

    Hey Molly,
I feel like people don’t end up reading fan mail, but compliments always make me smile so just in case…

I just wanted to say that if given three adjectives to describe myself (wishfully thinking of course) I would say pretty smart and awkward, (awkward, I believe makes a person personable) your blog name– simply genius.

As for the quotes and the advice– I have yet to find any blog so genuine yet– although the ones you talk about on your blog are amazing and endearing as well.
    I just wanted to say
Keep on Keeping on- you make my day 😉

    Chaya <3

  65. Molly says:
