How to be Smarter: The problem isn’t a lack of good ideas, it’s not remembering your good ideas. I bet if for one week–maybe one day–you wrote down each and every idea that came into your head, without pre-censoring out the “bad ones,” you would have a pretty interesting list of activities to do, businesses to start, majors to consider, places to visit, people to email, and topics to research by the end of the week.
How to be Prettier: An SP&A Exclusive Discount Code: With the promo code SMARTER, you can get 30% off a single regular priced item and free standard shipping at Francesca’s Collections, valid until 1/30. (Disclaimer: Online only. Cannot be combined with other discounts or promo codes. One time use. Gift cards & sale items are excluded).
How to be (less) Awkward: During phone interviews, where you cannot see the body language of the interviewer, wait a half-second before starting to answer a question. Sometimes people ask questions and then keep talking, and if both you and interviewer begin talking at the same time, it can be awkward to figure out who should keep going.

Hi Molly,
Love this post. The first tip is one of my resolutions this year, i think you couldn’t be more right. I also saw recently that you are moving back to NYC. Welcome back from a fellow New Yorker!
Thanks for all of the great content.
Ashley
Thanks for the great advice (as usual) and the promo code!!! <3
Couldn’t agree more on your tip on how to be smarter. I got in the habit of writing down scraps of ideas about 10 years ago. And now when I read through them, I don’t even remember writing them. Its like reading something written by someone else. Its also good for having a perspective on how your thinking has changed. And really with all the technology available today, there is no reason not to do it.
Just placed an order! Love it.
waahooo! I bought a super cute bag with your discount code on Francesca’s Collections. Thanks so much.
I LOVE this less awkward advice! Phone interviews are super stressful for me, so I will definitely remember this tip for the future!
[...] Smart Pretty and Awkward is one of my favourite blogs. There are always brilliant seeds that make me really think. Like this: Imagine writing down every single idea you had for a whole day, or even a week, including all the “bad” ideas. You’d have so many things to run with! [...]
I love the style of this blog! I really loved the section on how to be smarter. I like the idea of keeping records of all of your ideas!
