How to be Smarter: How to Talk to Little Girls. [Interesting article, which has sparked good conversations among my friends].

How to be Prettier: I recently swapped out my desk chair for an exercise ball, and I’m loving how much more active I am during the day because of it. If you are embarrassed about using an exercise ball for a desk chair at your day job, you can always just make the change for your desk at home.

How to be (less) Awkward: I use these customized countdown calendars for all sorts of events; if I’m looking forward to having friends visit or an upcoming family vacation, then I create a countdown and email it my pals or family as a way to say: I can’t wait to see you!

P.S. On Friday, Christina from 40:20 Vision and I launched Flash Fridays, which will come out on the first Friday of every month. This month’s Flash Friday topic is Dating in the Workplace.

Hmmmm…interesting suggestion on the exercise ball. I may have to drag my ball up from the basement to try this one….

The 40:20 post is really thoughtful. I am contemplating an office romance with a boy I have a crush on and there are more points to consider than I had thought. Thanks for directing me there.

I don’t agree with Lisa Bloom’s article. It’s true that girls should not be praised on good looks alone, but everyone has to hear they are beautiful growing up. If they don’t, they end up thinking they are ugly. Her intention is a good one, but ignoring this need of little girls (and boys as well) won’t achieve it.

I found this exercise ball/chair (http://www.amazon.com/Isokinetics-Inc-Balance-Ball-Chair/dp/B000VK7CEG/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1309968739&sr=1-3) at amazon.com. The gym I go to uses it at their reception desk too! It’s absolutely wonderful.

I sit on an exercise ball during the school year in the research lab where I’m pursuing my graduate degree. Because I’m at a University with other students, I don’t feel at all awkward about sitting on a big, silly ball. During the summers, however, I work in a government office building and I’m not at all comfortable with the ball, but after a few weeks I started having back pain from sitting in a chair all day.

I found an excellent middle ground – a FitDisc. They’re small, inflatable discs that are intended to be stood on to improve your balance, but they fit perfectly in a chair and are incredibly discrete. You can buy the same thing labelled as a chair pad, but they’re triple the price for an identical product.

I really love the article about little girls. I will for sure remember to start praising them on other important things beside being adorable. Thanks for letting us know about this.

Quote is completely true, I’m a Seattlite born and raised… there is a reason Starbucks originated here! Love your blog Molly :)

the 40:20 Flash Friday thing is very cool! Looking forward to reading it!

While I totally get the point of the article, I don’t fully agree with it. I think we need to be talking to little girls about beauty in different ways and talking to them about intellect. The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
