How to be Smarter: I don’t find it particularly interesting when people who are fearless go on to do great things; if you are truly fearless, any advice you could give would have no relevance in my life. People that have worries, and find ways to cope or work around them, are always the most inspiring. It is when you have jitters to overcome, and yet you still get up each and every day, trying to make your own and others’ lives better, that you become a role model.
How to be Prettier: Today I’m pleased to announce that GS Lillian (sold in Piperlime and Anthropologie) is giving Smart Pretty and Awkward readers 30% off and free shipping on a selection of spring jewelry (curated by me!). I’m especially loving the Kate Earrings, whose bright coral color add personality to even the most conservative office outfit.
How to be (less) Awkward: I’ve never heard someone say “It was so awkward, she said hi to me,” but I’ve certainly heard people say “It was so awkward, she didn’t say hi to me.” When in doubt, say hi.

Loving the (less) Awkward; so true.
Ahhh. the new layout covers the top of the quote on my computer (safari on macbook pro). But I love your blog!
Iris… not sure what you mean. I am using the same exact thing and the site shows perfectly!
should-read: Joseph Murphy “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind”
should-see: The Secret
Both will increase your courage. Have fun!
P.S. Spring pic is pretty huge.. maybe the smile.. maybe your posture.. maybe the colors.. or the feeling it makes to myself..
Actually I’m not sure.
It covers the quote on mine, too. I am using the latest version of Google Chrome.
Love the saying hi comment, it’s so true!
The quote is wonderful and perfect. Its about always striving.
I love love love the new layout, and your outfit is so cute
Love the less awkward!!! It’s so true!! And you’ve been so motivational lately with the Smarter posts…thanks!! Love the new headline image!
Definitely loving the smarter tip. Though I have to say, I’ve had some pretty awkward “hi” encounters! But it is true for the most part… at least you can be sure it’s the right thing to do 90% of the time.
George S. Patton quote – fits right into Patton Park! Good quote.
The new layout is gorgeous, but it covers the quote for me too. Using newest version of Chrome, same as Savannah.
I used to roll why eyes whenever my mom told me Rule #3. She was a big believer in always saying hi! Now that I’m grown up, I’ve gotta admit she’s right. (And about more than just that too.)
It is funny that you should post what you did in the awkward area because I’ve always thought the same thing. Recently however, I saw someone I work with out downtown and so of course I went and said hi and as I approached he laughed and said, “this is awkward…” Hmmm… well of course after that was said it definitely was!
LOVE the awkward! Something I struggle with a lot and so true…
I’m also using chrome- on macbook pro and have the top half of the quote cut off unfortunately… love the new pic though!
I LOVE your website. I stumbled on it about a year and a half ago and I’ve checked it ever since! Great job! Also..LOVE the thing about always saying hello! haha, SO true!
