Molly Ford's
Smart, Pretty & Awkward

How to be Smarter: Progress is progress, no matter how slow. Some days you will slide backwards, but if you start at Point A, and inch towards Point B, and skittle towards Point C, and take a half step back to Point B, and continue on skipping….someday, you will get Point Z.

How to be Prettier: Of course everyone should have a few black dresses to wear out. But everyone should also have a red one and a white one. And one in your favorite color.

How to be (less) Awkward: I really like myself–you probably really like yourself, too. But that’s no reason to not keep changing and growing–the goal is to keep becoming a better version of yourself.

Two steps forward and one step back is progress but can be fustrating. Are you saying it is smart to acknowledge that not every day goes according to plan?

I took it as like… you were planning to, say, expand your musical horizons. You spend the day searching new artists and scouring indie music blogs for samples and whatnot. You come across a soundtrack, get side-track and end up completely expanding your movie horizons instead.

It’s progress – you expanded your music horizons a bit, and your movie horizons a lot. Some point down the road, you would’ve wanted to expand your movie horizons had you not done so today.
In the end, it all went towards the “point z.”

Of course, this doesn’t apply just for music and movies. Say you wanted to improve… your etiquette and… end up getting side-tracked and watch sewing tutorials. It’s all progress, even if it’s not toward the intended goal.

Again, this is just how I see it…

I really like “awkward” on this post because it reminded me of one of my favorite quotes by Lynn Hall: “We did not change as we grew older; we just more clearly became ourselves.”

Having said that, you have to be yourself and stay true to yourself. Sometimes the cheesiest sayings are the most true!
